I think this week's prompt from Sally was the most challenging yet. Sally asked us to find "faith," that thing that keeps us believing, and snap a photo.
Lately, though, my thoughts on faith have been leaning toward having faith in myself.
I keep thinking about a quote from Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back: "Do or do not. There is no try."
Sometimes it is not enough to "try." You must "do." I think, in order to "do," we need the faith that we can.
This week, the kiddo was trying to climb a tree in our yard. Until that moment, she had been scared of climbing ... and falling.
She slid down a few times and scratched her knee a bit. I was so proud when she turned back to the tree and tried again.
I heard her say, "I know I can do it." She had faith in herself.
After a few more tries, she made it into the tree all on her own and even jumped down without help. (Can you say, "proud mama"?)
Now, if I can take a lesson from the kiddo and break this brick that's been sitting around. Breaking a brick is part of my upcoming black belt test.
I've been trying for some time. Trying is not enough. I need to find the faith in myself.
Please visit Sally's blog to see where the other participants found faith.
Wow! You have my admiration for even trying to break that brick. Go and do.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with breaking that brick. I think it is great that you are trying and I am sure you will succeed.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tanya, it is in you - you just have to see it! I know it is there - I have faith in you :)
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is very inspiring! I know that, like her, you can do it too!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will get your brick broken.. having faith in ones-self is often the hardest thing! Love your quote!
ReplyDeleteLOVING the Yoda quote! and I know how you feel about your daughter. Sometimes it is my kids who are teaching me. And as parents I think it is important to listen! now about that brick ... 'use the force' you have it within you :O
ReplyDeleteTanya, I'm sure your daughter "gets it honestly"... her faith in her ability to get-er-done. It's a little scary to see our own strength reflected in our children!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of your daughter's determination and faith in her ability and in YOUR'S to even consider breaking that brick! Thanks for sharing that Yoda quote, i will be jotting that one down to reflect on aain!
ReplyDeleteWow! Yes, I can see that's going to take faith and courage, just like your daughter's. I know you'll do it when you're ready.
ReplyDeleteYou CAN do it.
ReplyDeleteWhoa- good luck with that brick- I think you can, I think you can.... Very nice post.
ReplyDeleteI'm a kid from the Star Wars generation and that quote rattles around in my head quite often. Sometimes I even argue with it. :) But you are right, you have to Believe you can.
ReplyDeleteYou will break that brick. I believe it!
Yes, Yoda made a lot of sense. Maybe we need more of it! Keep up the great work, you will break it!
ReplyDeleteYes I love that one. So true. I can't tell you how to break a brick but I bet somewhere deep inside you already know how. I have faith that your training has brought you to that point with enough muscle memory to do it.
ReplyDeleteJust loved this post. Printing out this Yoda quote now to think on/pray on/have faith on over the next few weeks.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is great - and I can't wait for an upcoming post talking about the broken brick!
Wonderful post. I love to see kiddos having faith in themselves! And as for you and that brick,...I know you can! I'm just glad it's you and not me,..LOL!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I'd say "good luck!" but this takes more than luck... a lot of practice, work, and belief in yourself. Go to it with all your might and know we are standing behind you!
ReplyDeleteKids have infinitely more faith than adults, right? And as for the brick, I totally believe in you! Get to it! Enjoy the day. Erin
